Capo San Martino Lugano – Switzerland

Let’s talk about Italy. I know, I know, the headline looks like a Lugano trip. However, this trip we re-did a couple of years ago was a part of an Italy tour of “Lago Maggiore”, “Lago Como” and “Lago Lugano”. Inevitably, our car took us to Switzerland on a rainy day of end-April.

Remember we did a a long weekend in Lugano when our son was just 5 years old. It was the good old days of last trip with a pushchair, where we could enjoy walking, while he could enjoy to sit and relax. 5 years later, with a more crowded group of a cousin, aunt, grandma and grandpa, our son wanted to show his 3-year-old cousin the Mini Swiss. Once more in a spring day, once more on a rainy day.

After a long drive from our hotel Villa Borghi, in Italy and a tiring visit to mini Swiss with some on and off rains, we headed to Lugano with the hope of coming across a nice restaurant with a nice view.

Well, be careful what you wish for. Capo San Martino, was just the exact restaurant we would wish to have lunch, with the nice view and the nice fish.

Just a few minutes drive from Mini Swiss towards Lugano, settled on a high cliff of Lake Lugano, overlooking the Lugano city and sail boats on the lake.

Next: We are now very excited about our next trip to UK. Yes, we will not be able to rent a car as they drive from the wrong side. However, we are sure UK has lots of things to offer to travelers with children. Our stops are: Leicester, Cardiff and London.

Blue Mountains Bush Walk day in Australia

On our second day in Sydney Australia, we woke up on a nice Sunday morning, to have a lovely breakfast at our hotel Quay West Sydney. Today our plan was to visit Blue Mountains, a world heritage and a lovely natural area, sure to be visited in a trip to Sydney. Once more, we were picked up by a car and a driver, this time from Mount ‘n Beach Safaris company of Sydney.

Our first stop was Featherdale WildlifePark, to be introduced to the famous wildlife animals of Australia. First impression was very good for all of us. As you may have guessed, we have never seen any kangaroos, koalas or any other Australian animal before. So it was nice to feed them, touch them and get so close to them. However, the park we went a day after was much more interesting, clean and enjoyable to visit. So, wait for my next posts, before deciding to go!

Before reaching to Blue Mountains Scenic World, we did a short break to enjoy some view of the valley on the way. Lovely view, with infinite forest and a very dangerous wind.

Our final stop of the day, where we were gonna spent a half day was the Blue Mountains Scenic World, which includes skyways, railways, cableways, and a comfortable walkway in the forests of Blue Mountains, together with some shopping opportunities to do and some picnic tables, to enjoy our sandviches.

Among these, Skyway was by far the best view and the best experience to offer, with a glass floor to step on.

What is Switzerland doing here?

What is Switzerland doing here?

Have you been to Swiss Alps? We did a lovely holiday about 5 years ago to Luzern and visited Pilatus with the vehicles very similar to here. I may write about it too sometime later. So here is the reason. All rides were made by Swiss and this bell was a present to the park.

A day trip to Annecy

A day out in Annecy in March, not the best time but the best place to go for a family like us.

We went to Geneve Motor Show last March, which was a quick but a good decision. It wasn’t the first time neither to Switzerland nor to France, but the first time in the area. Being the last minute planner for the motor show, we could not find a place to stay in Geneve, so we searched for around and find a convenient, business hotel at Thoiry/France, a cute little village  just half an hour drive from Geneve. Of course  a long weekend to the area provides you more than the motor show itself. So we decided to do a day trip to Annecy, which was about 50 km. from our hotel.

Annecy is a very nice town, in the middle of the Alpine Mountains, by the lovely lake of Annecy. A town of castles, lakes, rivers and bridges. French Cafes, Macaronis, red tiled roofs and little village streets. Parks, large trees, fog and well, castles again.

A walk in the park

We started our tour in the lanes of the town, climbing up to the castle, which was not the best part for our son actually, as he doesn’t like to walk. Afterwards, we had a little break in a nice French cafe, at a very small corner table and enjoyed our hot chocolates and cappuccinos. For lunch (which I may tell mote n another post sometime later) we had a lovely meal at a very French restaurant. When I say French I really mean French, with French speaking waiters and a French menu. Thanks to the non-Parisian French guests of the restaurant on the next table, they very helpfully explained us all the menu in English and with lots of advice, helped us to give our order.

In the afternoon we did a walk by the foggy lake and some “people watch” activity with lots of relaxing time and feeding the swans. By the evening, we loved the town, loved the people and dreamed of coming back sometime in summer or late spring maybe in the coming years.

Ready for Geneva

Tomorrow we will be heading for a new adventure to Geneva, Switzerland. Both my husband and our son loves the cars and it was their dream to go to a motor show. Actually they would prefer to go to Frankfurt or Paris motor shows, but unfortunately they are both organized in September, when the school time just starts. Soo, of we go tomorrow morning, everything (hopefully everything) organized, flights organised, hotel is booked (in France actually), a BMW 3 series reserved, visas checked, Eyewitness book of Switzerland borrowed… Make sure to follow us next 4 days.
